Jesus
I started this live painting with an outline of a red heart and wrote “Jesus” in the middle, trying to convey the ultimate valentine. Then I changed the heart shape into his face. I try to paint quickly, so I’m definitely not going for an exact image. The face that came out was a very Jewish-looking Jesus.
A missionary gave the message that day, and as she closed, she put up PowerPoint slide conveying a picture of Jesus wearing the crown of thorns, inviting us into a deeper place of surrender to him. An image that is very close to the image that I painted. She and I had not spoken beforehand.
This painting is definitely not realistic, but it is raw and real. It’s not the most dazzling painting I have ever produced, but I had one of my most powerful experiences with the Lord as I was painting it, and as a result, it’s one of my favorites. It watched me for a week and I watched it back…and every time I sensed that my friend Jesus was in those eyes, drawing me into a place of repentance and identity and love. It is my prayer that you see the same Jesus I see in it, and that you let those ocean-deep eyes pull you into a place of heartfelt worship and unmitigated truth.
