Harvest
Some paintings have deep personal significance to a single person, and also carry a weight that can be sensed corporately. Harvest is one of those paintings. I had seen an image of a wheat field in my mind, but I wasn’t sure what it signified. I had brought a friend who was a little skeptical about live painting in church. After I painted the field, the friend was no longer doubtful—he was absolutely convinced that God uses the visual arts in worship. He told me I had just painted his grandparents’ farm. We had just been talking about whether he should visit them, and he felt like it was a confirmation. I did not know what their farm looked like when I painted it, and he had not described it to me. Several other people told me later they felt like it was the coming harvest.
